Britney Spears’ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, is speaking out about Britney’s conservatorship just four days after Britney testified, her first time going on the record about the legal arrangement. During the hearing, Britney called the conservatorship run by her father Jamie Spears “abusive.” She told the court that, among other restrictive measures, she is unable to ride a car alone with her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, not allowed to have her IUD removed despite wanting another child, and was forced to take lithium when she canceled her second Vegas residency. She requested the court end her conservatorship without a medical examination.

“I would honestly like to sue my family, to be totally honest with you,” Britney said at one point when recounting how she was treated. “I also would like to be able to share my story with the world, and what they did to me, instead of it being a hush-hush secret to benefit all of them. I want to be able to be heard on what they did to me by making me keep this in for so long, is not good for my heart. I’ve been so angry and I cry every day, it concerns me, I’m told I’m not allowed to expose the people who did this to me.”

In the hours after Britney’s testimony, Jamie Lynn was silent on her social media, although she disabled comments on her nine most recent Instagram posts. On Monday afternoon, though, Jamie Lynn posted a series of videos to her Instagram Story where she addressed her sister’s situation.

Jamie Lynn stressed she is not affected by Britney’s conservatorship and only wants her sister to be happy. “I’ve made a very conscious choice in my life to only participate in her life as her sister, as an aunt to those boys,” Jamie Lynn said, referring to Britney’s two sons. She emphasized later, “I am not my family. I am my own person. I am speaking for myself.”

Hey everybody. I just want to take a second to address a few things. The only reason I haven’t before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do. But now that she’s very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say.

I think it’s extremely clear since the day I was born, I’ve only loved, adored and supported my sister. I mean, this is my friggin’ big sister before any of this bullshit. I don’t care if she wanted to run away to a rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has so many times before because I have nothing to gain or lose either way. This situation does not affect me either way because I am only her sister who is only concerned about her happiness. I’ve made a very conscious choice in my life to only participate in her life as her sister, as an aunt to those boys.

Maybe I didn’t support her the way the public would like me to with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you that I’ve supported my sister long before there was a hashtag, and I’ll support her long after. That’s a fact. I mean, I’ve worked since I was nine years old, paid my own friggin’ bills since I was 10 years old. Not that I owe the public anything because my sister knows that I love and support her. That’s the only person I owe anything to. I am not my family. I am my own person. I am speaking for myself. I’m so proud of her for using her voice. I’m so proud of her for requesting new counsel like I told her to do many years ago, not on a big public platform but just in a personal conversation between two sisters so I’m very proud that she has taken that step. If ending the conservatorship …or whatever the hell else she wants to do to be happy, I support that 100 percent because I support my sister. I love my sister, always have, always will as long as she’s happy. So let’s keep praying. That’s all.
