We’re diving into June this month by celebrating Pride, while also getting dressed for the beach and beyond. From Telfar’s highly anticipated collaboration with UGG to eBay’s newest handbag authentication program, June offers a promising look on the summer of dressing up and showing out.

Café Forgot Opens First Permanent Store

Why: Everyone’s favorite Instagram (and IRL) store is here to stay in New York. Cafe Forgot launched its concept store downtown in 2017, always putting community first in their unique and transient spaces. Co-founders Vita Haas and Lucy Weisner are opening the store’s first permanent brick-and-mortar space at 29 Ludlow St in the Lower East Side. The focal point of the new store is the merchandised wall with a motorized clothing rack, ensuring the shopping experience is always changing. Friends and artists alike will bring new designs to the floor-to-ceiling wallpaper installations, the first being artist Maggie Lee. The shop carries a host of designers including Colin LoCascio, Di Petsa, and timosassen, and their lineup is always changing, providing one of the freshest retail experiences in the city. The store officially sets sail on June 16th with an opening from 6-8pm.

Why: NY-based and Colombian-born accessories brand Min & Mon is committed to honoring the artisan industry, specifically in Colombia, which is at risk of being eradicated and replaced with commercialized production. In order to honor the craftswomen of the Wayuu indigenous community, located in Northern Colombia in La Guajira, Min & Mon pays for the labor and material upfront to create the incredible Wayuu Crossbody Mochila bags. This community is rooted in craft, having created their own matriarchal society self-sustained by the generation-long tradition and technique of crochet. This unique platform offered by Min & Mon brings awareness to these communities without exploiting their labor or craft, highlighting the amazing work these women do.

Why: Prada senses a return to the great outdoors this summer, with everyone itching to sprawl out in the sun. Based on four distinct moods—Garden, Coast, Mountain, and Snow—the pop-up stores include RTW for men and women in bright terry and gabardine, casual enough for relaxed dinners at the beach and refined enough to speak to Prada’s DNA. The star of the show are the wicker bag and terry accessories in neon, perfect accompaniments to the beach or the tiki bar. The Outdoors pop-ups will be in select Prada boutiques nationwide until the end of June.

Why: The Halls of Gems and Minerals at the American Museum of Natural History provides a window into the rich history of gems, stones, and minerals that are invaluable for education. With the generosity of Allison and Roberto Mignone, the new halls take on new form with beautiful displays and “feel like you’re entering the world’s jewelry box.” Some of the world’s largest diamonds and rarest geodes are on display. The first temporary exhibition in these permanent halls is ‘Beautiful Creatures,’ a deep dive into the history of animal-inspired jewelry and gems. Admission to the Halls is included in a general admission ticket to the museum, with its grand opening on Saturday, June 12.
