After years of anticipation and multiple COVID-related delays, Marvel’s Black Widow has finally made her presence known. The first Marvel film to focus solely on the fan-favorite assassin will hit theaters and Disney+ on July 9.
The long-awaited Marvel prequel follows Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), as she’s forced to confront “the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger,” per Disney. Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, the standalone film stretches back into Natasha’s childhood for a glimpse at what made the Widow.
The film stars Johansson as Romanoff, Little Women actress Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Stranger Things actor David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, and The Mummy actress Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff.
