Taylor Swift’s ex Jake Gyllenhaal has been publicly silent about Swift’s release of her re-recorded Red album, including its new “From the Vault” songs seemingly about him and their three-month 2010 romance: the 10-minute version of “All Too Well” and “I Bet You Think About Me.” For the first time since its release, E! got a dispatch from a source about how Gyllenhaal is taking the renewed attention on social media and beyond.
Apparently, he is trying to ignore it, the source said: “Jake has no interest in any of it. He doesn’t read gossip or pay any attention to that. He’s living his life and focused on himself. He’s ignoring all of the noise.”
Gyllenhaal has been touchy about Swift’s music that’s allegedly about him for years.
In 2017, five years after Red’s 2012 release, Gyllenhaal was dodgy about Swift when asked about her in an interview with The Guardian. The outlet’s journalist, Tim Jonze, asked him if he was “playing with fire a little” by dating her given his preference for privacy.
Gyllenhaal became awkward while answering the question. He started, “I think when you’re in a relationship, you are constantly scrutinized, your friends are scrutinized, but…” Gyllenhaal then stared off and gave an exaggerated shrug. When asked if he listened to any of the songs rumored to be about him, he didn’t say anything. Jonze then asked if Gyllenhaal wanted to move on, and the actor said yes. “I would love to not talk about my personal life,” he said.
Assuming Gyllenhaal was the subject of the tracks, he has, in fact, heard them, Swift revealed in 2013. Swift told New York magazine, “I heard from the guy that most of Red is about. He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.’ That was nice. Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude. It’s a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible, and both people got hurt from it—but one of those people happened to be a songwriter.”
