Kim Kardashian is vacationing in Italy and headed over to the Vatican for a visit today in an outfit more fit for Fashion Week than the Pope’s home, which has a strict dress code for visitors. Kardashian wore a sheer, off-the-shoulder white lace dress with cutouts. She was photographed on the grounds of the Vatican with Kate Moss and her daughter, Lila Grace.
Traditionally, only Catholic queens wore white lace to the Vatican, while most have dressed in black. According to the Vatican Museums’ website, there’s no ban on non-black looks nowadays, but there are guidelines against wearing anything low-cut or sleeveless. As the site reads, “Entry to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Gardens is permitted only to appropriately dressed visitors. Sleeveless and/or low-cut garments, shorts above the knee, miniskirts and hats are not permitted. The requirement of decorum extends also to any visible personal objects as well as similarly visible distinctive personal signs (such as, for example, tattoos) that may offend Catholic morality, the Catholic religion, and common decency.”
It’s your call on whether Kardashian’s outfit meets the spirit of the dress code or not, although she did ultimately get to explore some of the grounds in it. An eyewitness additionally told E! that Kardashian covered up in “a long black leather coat” while inside the church and chapel in adherence to the dress code.
E!’s source revealed that Kardashian was permitted to explore the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter Basilica’s during a private, two-and-a-half-hour tour with Moss and her daughter.
“They all seemed like good friends who had plenty to talk about,” the source said. “When they arrived at the Vatican, they were greeted outside by staff who gave them hugs. Kim was met by Tracy and they all went inside together. They spent lots of time learning the history and admiring all of the beautiful details. They stopped to take photos of Michelangelo’s artwork and statue. They entered St. Peter’s Basilica where they watched mass. They enjoyed all of the incredible beauty of the Vatican and paused many times to take it all in.”
This is a big week for Kardashian, with the reality star announcing that her shapewear line Skims designed Team USA’s loungewear for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
“Ever since I was 10 years old, I’ve heard every single detail about the Olympics from my stepdad,” Kardashian wrote on Instagram. “As I would watch the athletes compete, I would grow to understand the dedication and honor being a part of the Olympics embodied. I traveled w my stepdad and family to all different cities for the Olympic trials, the Olympics and track meets of @caitlynjenner’s and at every stop I would buy an Olympic t-shirt as a souvenir. When I received the call inviting Skims to be a part of @TeamUSA 🇺🇸, every moment I’ve spent admiring the strength and energy of the Olympians from the sidelines came full circle. I am honored to announce that @skims is designing the official team USA undergarments, pajamas and lounge wear for the athletes this year in Tokyo and the same pieces will be available in a capsule collection at SKIMS.COM 🇺🇸.”
