Olivia Rodrigo made her MTV VMAs debut in style. The 18-year-old walked the red carpet at the Brooklyn event, wearing pink Atelier Versace column gown with giant butterfly dangle earrings. Her appearance comes one day before the Met Gala, another high-profile fashion event the young star could attend for the first time.

At the MTV VMAs, Rodrigo posed solo on the carpet. Rodrigo is set to perform tonight at the ceremony; it’ll be her first time doing that, too.
Rodrigo recently spoke to GQ about her sudden mainstream fame and how surreal it was becoming globally famous during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I think it was actually awesome, because there was this lack of pressure,” she said. “If there was a concert and I could see that ‘Drivers License’ was being sung by thousands of people, I feel like I would’ve gotten in my head more than I did.”
Rodrigo said she felt most starstruck learning Ed Sheeran knew who she was. “Ed Sheeran the other day was like, ‘I love Olivia Rodrigo,’” she recalled. “And like, ‘I love that she writes her own songs, like rocks out.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my God—that’s so cool.’ I think he’s one of the best songwriters ever. It’s weird to think about people like that looking at my Spotify and turning on my songs. That’s so crazy. But yeah, I’m excited to meet my peers too. I haven’t met many people, so that will be fun.”
