There is always a lot of pressure on men to last longer in bed. A new review has suggested doing yoga may be the best bet for delaying climaxing by up to three times.
The scientific review, published in Trends in Urology & Men’s Health, analyzed different techniques that claim to help men last longer during sex without using erectile-dysfunction medications like Viagra.
Led by researchers from Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom, the review focused on men who suffered from premature ejaculation.
It should be noted that premature ejaculation is not that serious, since around 30% of men have said they have experienced it at some point in their lives. But when someone always or almost always ejaculates within one to three minutes of penetration, or is not able to delay ejaculation every or almost every time, or finds himself avoiding sexual intimacy due to it, the person can be diagnosed with the disease, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Early semen discharge is associated with multifaceted problems, including psychological distress, poor self-esteem, anxiety, decreased libido, and poor interpersonal relationships, as per the review.
“Strategies for men to help them last longer in the bedroom could help improve their relationship with their partner and their self-esteem,” said Lee Smith, professor of public health at Anglia Ruskin University and senior author of the review, the New York Post reported.
For the review, scientists investigated 54 studies that enrolled about 3,500 men. In one particular study involving men between the ages of 18 and 45, 35 participants were made to run at least 30 minutes a day for five days a week, while others were told to walk a maximum of 30 minutes a day for five days a week.
It was found comparatively more active men had improved sexual performance. These men went from lasting an average of 39 seconds during sex to more than 30 minutes in comparison to inactive men, who lasted for 50 seconds, the study showed.
The most eye-catching study was the one where 26 men practiced yoga for 12 weeks. Incredibly, these men lasted three times longer in bed–from an average of 26 seconds to almost a minute and a half.
In summation, researchers posit that physical activity could be a game changer in improving men’s performance in bed.
“This evidence is based on studies involving a small number of men, and we need more research in this area, but approaches like physical activity could help all men,” Smith said. “This is not just for men diagnosed with premature ejaculation.”
“Most men may not have performed as well as they wanted to at some point, and could benefit from lifestyle changes and techniques to help last longer,” Smith added.
