Zayn Malik was charged with four criminal offenses of harassment in his alleged dispute with Gigi Hadid’s mother Yolanda and Gigi also, TMZ is reporting this morning based off of court documents it reviewed. ELLE.com independently reviewed two of the documents and can confirm Zayn’s four charges of harassment. One document indicates Zayn pled guilty to the charges; court officials told TMZ that Zayn actually pled no contest.
Court documents revealed that the argument occurred at Gigi and Zayn’s Pennsylvania home on September 29. TMZ reviewed a document including details about the dispute. It reported that Gigi was in Paris, and Zayn allegedly called Yolanda “‘f***ing Dutch slut,’ [and] ordered her to ‘stay away from [my] f***ing daughter’” among other verbal abuses.
Multiple sources told TMZ that the charge regarding Gigi stemmed from what Zayn said to her while on the phone with her during the incident. According to the court doc TMZ reviewed, he screamed at Gigi to “strap on some f***ing balls and defend your partner against your f***ing mother in my house.”
Zayn denied any physical contact with Yolanda, but according to the TMZ-reviewed court doc, he allegedly “shoved her [Yolanda] into a dresser causing mental anguish and physical pain.” In a statement to TMZ before case details came out, Zayn said, “I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private.”
After pleading no contest to harassment Wednesday, Zayn has been fined and is “on 90 days probation for each count, totaling 360 days,” TMZ wrote. Zayn “must complete an anger management class and a domestic violence program,” and have no contact with Yolanda.
Zayn released a statement on Twitter regarding his decision to plead no contest yesterday. He wrote:
As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter [Khai] to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago. This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been “leaked” to the press. I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves.
