The first-ever Oscars began in 1929, and almost 100 years later it’s still happening! (Even if the Academy is still snubbing women and diverse nominees, but that’s a whole other issue.) With nine decades worth of red carpets, that means there have been SO many stylish dresses and gowns that have graced them. Here, we’re taking a look back at some of the most stunning, fashion-forward ones for each year dating all the way back to ’29. (Wow, those black-and-white pics are a throwback!) From Lupita Nyong’o to Penelope Cruz and from Audrey Hepburn to Grace Kelly, click through to see the most stylish Oscars dress the year you were born.

1 of 87

Gemma Chan, 2019

The Crazy Rich Asians star wore a voluminous Valentino dress with a high collar to the red carpet and landed on the best-dressed list. As a bonus, the frock even had pockets!!!

2 of 87

Viola Davis, 2018

Viola donned a bright pink sequin Michael Kors gown and accessorized with a matching clutch and sparkly hoop earrings in 2018. She won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar the previous year for her emotional performance in Fences, and presented the award for Best Supporting Actor to Sam Rockwell this year.

3 of 87

Naomie Harris, 2017

The Moonlight star was nominated for Best Supporting Actress this year, and she didn’t play any games on the red carpet. This white sequin Calvin Klein mini was jaw-dropping—especially when paired with her bold yellow heels.

4 of 87

Cate Blanchett, 2016

Sure, Cate Banchett’s Armani Prive gown might’ve been a little divisive, but we totally stan this gorge aqua hue, feathery details, and Swarovski crystals. It was clearly a winning look since she picked up the Best Actress Award for her work in Carol.

5 of 87

Zendaya, 2015

She absolutely glowed in this neutral off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress. She wore her hair in locs, which stirred up some controversial remarks from Giuliana Rancic. Zendaya then posted a powerful statement about the hairstyle on her Instagram, and Rancic later apologized for her insensitive comments.

6 of 87

Lupita Nyong’o, 2014

Lupita blew everyone away with her performance in 12 Years a Slave—she picked up the Best Supporting Actress award this evening. Her Prada gown was definitely the most stylish on the red carpet, thanks to its simple silhouette, subtle shimmer, and dramatic train.

7 of 87

Zoe Saldana, 2013

This couture Alexis Mabille gown seemed like it had a lot going on—The floral appliques! The belted waist! The ombre train!—but because of the neutral colors and sleek design, it was the most stylish of the night. This same year she appeared in Star Trek Into Darkness.

8 of 87

Emma Stone, 2012

This fuchsia Giambattista Valli gown featuring a cinched waist and dramatic pussybow was such a stunner in 2012. She presented the award for Best Visual Effects with Ben Stiller later on stage.

17 of 87

J. Lo killed the red carpet in this mint green one-shoulder Valentino dress with beading at the hem. She attended the awards with her then boyfriend Ben Affleck. (#TBT to Gigli.)

18 of 87

Halle Berry, 2002

You can’t think of the 2002 Academy Awards without also envisioning this Elie Saab dress on Halle Berry. It remains one of the actress’s most iconic looks of all time thanks to the completely see-through bodice and the strategically-placed floral embroidery.

19 of 87

She performed along side Andrea Bocelli at the ceremony.

Jennifer Lopez Joined Ben Affleck In L.A. With Kids For Thanksgiving

On Wednesday night, Jennifer Lopez arrived in Los Angeles with her 13-year-old twins Max and Emme. The family was likely there to join Lopez’s boyfriend, Ben Affleck, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Lopez recently returned from the much colder climate of British Columbia, Canada, where she was filming her latest project, The Mother.

J. Lo touched down in her private jet wearing a teddy fur coat from Coach’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection, and a pair of Ugg boots. Classic airplane outfit, celebrity style. Lopez and Affleck originally dated in 2002 and broke up in 2004. Their romance was rekindled earlier this year, soon after Lopez ended her relationship with baseball player Alex Rodriguez. The new couple went official in July, while celebrating Lopez’s 52nd birthday abroad.

Affleck’s most recent relationship with Ana de Armas ended in January after about a year together. He had divorced ex-wife Jennifer Garner in 2015 after being married for almost a decade. Garner and Affleck had three daughters, Violet, Seraphina, and Sam.

Before traveling back to the U.S., Lopez posted a story to Instagram Reels about how grateful she was to be headed home.

“Hey everybody, it’s my last day here shooting on The Mother out in Smithers in the snow, it’s been beautiful, but tonight I’m on my way home,” she said, as she walked through the wild landscape in a black coat and beanie.

“I’m so excited for Thanksgiving! I hope everybody has an amazing weekend with their families and their loved ones, there’s so much to be grateful for this year. I’m on my way!”

This is the first major holiday of the year since Lopez and Affleck reunited, so it’s likely to be a big one for both families.

This is not a drill: Everlane just kicked off its Black Friday sale. Now through Monday, November 29, the direct-to-consumer brand is offering 20 to 40% off its cozy sweaters, minimalist activewear, and popular jeans. If you’re not super familiar with Everlane, let me spell it out for you: this is a big deal.

The e-tailer might be known for making sustainable, ethically made clothes and accessories at a fair, affordable price, but Everlane rarely has sales beyond its Choose What You Pay section. So, if you want to stock up on cute basics for less, now’s your time to shop.

And, in true Everlane fashion, the brand is taking this opportunity to give back. Everlane is partnering with Rodale Institute and help U.S. farmers transition their farmland to regenerative organic—and donating $15 per order to the cause. A great sale that gives back? I’m sold.

But, hurry! These deals are going to sell out fast, so you won’t want to waste any time filling your e-cart.
